Communication and constructive feedback between you and your web designer is paramount in making your vision come to life. It often takes several revisions before it starts taking shape so being specific about what you like and don’t like is important. Just remember design is a conversation that comes to shape with feedback. Here are some of the steps we take to assure we understand your vision:
Listening to your story, how your brand came to be, and understanding your company values is where we start. We want your website to be a visible representation of your brand. We will meet with you and ask you questions that will give us a better vision of your history and brand.
In the process of discovering what you are envisioning we encourage you to look up at least 5 websites in your industry. We will ask you what you like and don’t like about those websites. What catches your eye and what is a distraction to you? Look at the navigation, the picture or banner on the home page, what stands out to you that you like?
When viewing your mock-ups it is very helpful to the designer to understand your thoughts. It can be frustrating for the designer when we hear, “It just doesn’t feel right”, or “it doesn’t pop”. Try to express yourself with an example using action words. For example, “Make the font more playful”. “I would like the headline bigger and bolder.” If you think it’s bland ask yourself, why is it bland? The colors or font? The images we used? Be clear and concise so we can make the changes needed right away.
When considering your color choices ask yourself these questions:
1. Do the colors flow well together?
2. Are there too many colors?
3. Do the colors convey what you want?
4. Is there not enough colors?
Professional images make a huge impact on your page. Whether it’s headshots, or pictures of your store and products, it’s worth investing in a professional photographer. We have highly recommended photographers and videographers we work with. They too will listen to your story to get a feel for what you want. Communication is essential every step of the way.
We as designers are used to clients asking us to change some aspects of a design in the development process. Don’t be afraid to share your thoughts with us if you don’t feel good about something. It is more important for us to give you what you want and will not be offended along the way. Constructive criticism with kindness is always more effective.
In order for the website design process to be finished on-time, it is important to have good communication with your designer. When your designer reaches out to you it is because your feedback is necessary to go forward. Whether it is by email, phone, or video, to keep the process running smoothly we need to hear back from you. Providing your feedback in an appropriate amount of time keeps us on schedule for our launch date. We are just as excited to launch your site as you are!
